A Pinewoods condominium complex resident returned home from work Wednesday to find the front door open and items missing from the unit in the 23000 block of Farmington Road.
Farmington Public Safety Department Commander Justin DuLong said Friday that some sort of pry tool was used to enter the unit, sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. He said the home invasion is “unusual for that area,” but not the time it occurred.
“It has been my experience that the majority of these happen in the daytime,” he said.
DuLong explained that criminals will often knock on a door to see whether anyone’s home. If someone answers, they’ll say they were looking for a different address or ask for someone who doesn’t live there.
The department asks residents to call whenever something like that happens, or to report any suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles. The department’s non-emergency number is 248-474-4700, or call 9-1-1 for an immediate response. And anyone with information about the Wednesday home invasion is asked to call DuLong at 248-474-5500, ext. 2246.
