American Legion honors highly decorated Hills officer

Officer Gary Lavin recently became the second officer in Farmington Hills Police Department history to earn three prestigious local awards.

Honored September 11 as the 2016 American Legion Farmington Post #346 Police Officer of the Year, he has also received City Police Officer of the Year and Optimist Police Officer of the Year honors in previous years.

A 22-year veteran, Lavin was first hired as a cadet in 1994 and promoted to police officer in 1995. Formerly a patrol officer and detective assigned to the South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium, he now serves as the School Liaison Officer at North Farmington High School. He is also a field training officer and active shooter response instructor.
