A Farmington Hills native will be bringing home gold from this year’s Paralympic Games, held this week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Harrison High 2008 graduate Rachael Morrison finished on top in women’s discus competition, breaking her own world record with a 13.09-meter throw, according to teamusa.org. She also picked up a silver medal in the club throw.
“To set a world record at a Paralympic Games leaves me mostly speechless with a plastered smile across my face which will be there for quite a while,” she said.
Morrison, who also medaled in World Championships last year, was paralyzed in 2012 by a rare condition called transverse myelitis. Read more about her at teamusa.org.
