Optimists’ golf outing raises $13K for kids

The Farmington/Farmington Hills Optimist Club’s 26th annual Orrie Donley Golf Outing raised $13,000 to support programs for local youth.

Optimist Golf Outing

Held August 2 at the Farmington Hills Golf Course, the event drew 115 golfers and numerous sponsors. Miss Farmington Grace Murphy, 1st Runner-Up Katelyn Brewer, and contestant Emily Brewer helped out with the raffle and other event details. Club president Roxanne Fitzpatrick described the outing as “a huge success”.

The event is named after the late Orrie Donley, a club member who was very instrumental in getting the outing going and making it always a success. He loved the community and the children, Fitzpatrick said.

Funds raised will support the club’s essay contest, oratorical contest, and leadership awards, the Great Farmington Hills Campout, fishing lessons for children, and many other activities.

Optimist Club members meet at 7:30 a.m. on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of the month at John Cowley & Sons in downtown Farmington. To learn more, call Anna Durham 248-473-1922.
