Farmington library takes books on wheels

The Farmington Community Library is now on wheels – three of them – with the addition of a custom-designed, Haley Tricycles Book Bike.

Farmington branch manager Kelly Siegrist said she got the idea for the new addition, funded by Friends of the Library, after seeing photos featured on other library websites.

“Those were mostly in warmer states, but it looked like something that would work well in downtown Farmington,” she said.

A cabinet attached to the front opens up when the Book Bike is parked, revealing display shelves. Siegrist said the trike is also helpful for carrying items from the Farmington branch on Liberty Street to Riley Park for special events and the Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market.

Books may be checked out, but you’ll need your library card or card number to do so.

“It’s a great marketing tool,” Siegrist added. “It is fun. That’s why I loved it when I saw it.”

While the Book Bike arrived too late for the 2016 Greater Farmington Area Founders Festival parade, look for it next year.
