Five hundred local shoppers will be among the first inside a new Fresh Thyme Farmers Market grocery store, set to open August 17 in downtown Farmington.
The store on Tuesday invited Facebook fans to sign up for an August 16 “sneak peek” event with early shopping, live music, and giveaways. The Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting at 3:45 p.m. that day.
In a press release, the company announced that the first 250 shoppers in line on August 17, at 7 am., will receive a free bag of groceries. The rapidly growing Midwest specialty retailer is focused on healthy and organic foods and products.
“We’re thrilled to be opening our sixth store in Michigan. We love this city and look forward to serving the community,” Fresh Thyme CEO Chris Sherrell said. “The Fresh Thyme mission is to service our customers like family and to offer healthy good food at really good prices.”
Fresh Thyme’s community connections include stocking local products and produce, and hiring about 100 local residents for full-time and part-time positions. In addition, as part of its ongoing Cultivate Community initiative, the company will donate 5 percent of store sales on August 23, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., to Farmington/Farmington Hills Neighborhood House. The nonprofit provides assistance and referrals for help to Farmington area families in need.
As part of the week-long, grand opening celebration, Fresh Thyme has scheduled a variety of family-friendly events on-site with the Farmington Community Library, and Farmington Hills-based MidAmerican Dance and MidAmerican Fitness.
