UPDATE: Metro news outlets reported Wednesday that a West Bloomfield police officer shot and killed the suspect in a Tuesday morning robbery at the Bank of America, 25950 Middlebelt Rd. (at 11 Mile Road).

According to the Detroit Free Press, the suspect, whose name is being withheld as the investigation continues, had been released last month from prison. Police tracked him to a motel in Detroit, where he “lunged at them with a knife,” the newspaper reported.

Police said Tuesday that the man had handed the bank teller a note demanding money. The note implied that he was armed, but no weapon was seen. The man took an undisclosed amount of cash and left. No one was injured during the incident.

Police released several photos of the suspect, who was described as being in his 50s, 5’8” to 5’10” and about 180 lbs., with short blonde hair and a blonde mustache. He was last seen wearing a light colored, button-front dress shirt, with the sleeves rolled up, khaki colored shorts, white socks and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information should call the Farmington Hills Police Department Command Desk, 248-871- 2610.
