Voter turnout light for Farmington area primary election

Voter turnout landed well below 25 percent for Tuesday’s state partisan primary election, in both Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Local voters faced only a handful of contested primary races for state and county offices, along with a 10-year, .1 mill tax to support the Detroit Zoo, supported by 85 percent of Farmington voters, and 79 percent in Farmington Hills.

District 37 State Rep. Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) will face Republican challenger Mitch Swoboda, who defeated Matt Beer with 56.88 percent of the vote. And former State Rep. Vicki Barnett handily won her Democratic primary, defeating challenger Mark Danowski with 78 percent of the county-wide vote.
