Sweet Magnolia’s Southern Cooking will bring a taste of the south to Northwestern Highway in Southfield as the restaurant celebrates its grand opening July 21.
The restaurant is the brainchild of owner Carolyn Cannon, a Detroit native who’s always had a passion for cooking, and is affectionately named for her mother, Magnolia. Cannon spent the last 13 years working side-by-side with her son Johnny, owner of the New Center Eatery in Detroit, perfecting precious heirloom recipes to create a new Southern dining experience.
The dine-in restaurant is casual and family-friendly, yet it has an upscale, contemporary feel and an emphasis on Magnolia Cannon’s Southern-inspired cooking and hospitality. The menu includes both traditional and creative interpretations of high quality Southern favorites and American fare, along with the “Sweet Magnolia’s Express” Soul Food Carry-Out Bar.
“Sweet Magnolia’s is a warm, comfortable place where guests can relax and enjoy learning about and savoring the flavors of this amazing food,” Carolyn Cannon said. “Every meal will be prepared fresh, with as many local ingredients as the region allows. We’ll be serving fresh breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a beautiful Sunday Southern brunch, late-night hours, and a mind-blowing carry out bar where guests on-the-go can pick and choose from a large variety of dishes to create their own personalized meal quickly.”
Sweet Magnolia’s menu will feature a variety of small plate appetizers, sandwiches, homemade soups and salads, sides, breakfast, lunch and dinner entrées, child-sized portions, and desserts from Southern family recipes created by Magnolia herself, to newly-created taste explosions, infusing the finest Southern regional cuisine and soul food with American favorites.
