Suspended Farmington Hills cop facing child porn charges resigns

A suspended Farmington Hills Police officer who faces multiple charges of possessing child pornography has resigned from the department.

Matthew Parsons, 48, was suspended without pay after his May 28 arraignment on eight sex offense and five computer-related charges. Investigators from the Michigan Department of Attorney General, Criminal Division, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served search warrants on May 25 at the Farmington Hills Police Station on 11 Mile Road, and interviewed the 20-year department veteran. The Attorney General’s office is handling the case.

Parsons remains incarcerated at the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac and is expected to appear at a July 8 preliminary exam in Waterford’s 51st District Court. During the proceeding, a judge will determine whether enough evidence exists for the case to move forward.
