Managing Your Blood Pressure: A Health Literacy Workshop: Mondays, July 11-August 1, 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

This four-week workshop is designed for those who have blood pressure issues or take blood pressure medications. Learn how to ask your doctor the right questions in this educational program that offers practical tools to help promote health literacy in the community. Provided by Wanda Chukwu, MA, MSN, RN, Doctoral Candidate. No cost, but space is limited. Sign up in Conway Hall or call 248-473-1830. Light refreshments provided.

Blueberry Pie Sale to Support Adults 50 & Better Transportation Program: July 12-15

Join other volunteers at the 13th Annual Blueberry Pie Extravaganza, with proceeds going to support the Adults 50 & Better Transportation Program. Pies will be baked at the Costick Center kitchen on July 12 and July 13, from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Pies will be sold for $12 each, only at the Costick Center on July 14 and July 15, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Call 248-473-1830 if you’d like to be a part of this event.

Pie Throwing Contest: July 14, 12:30 p.m.

Instead of the usual pie eating contest, you’ll get to see a pie thrown at one of these brave volunteers: Mayor Ken Massey, City Manager Dave Boyer, Special Services Director Ellen Schnackel, Life Guard Larry Lee, Camp Counselor Kaitlin Stieber, and representatives from the Police and Fire Departments. Purchase single raffle tickets at the Costick Center main desk at $1 or $5 for 10. Raffle winners chosen the day of the contest from ticket containers designated for each contestant will have the chance to cream one of the volunteers.

Online Safety: July 20, 10 a.m.

Learn how to protect your devices, money, and personal information while online, plus learn how to avoid common online scams.

Walk with a Doc: July 21, 10 a.m.

Integrative Health: Focusing on Wellness with Dr. Patricia Schmidt. This free program is presented in partnership with Beaumont Hospital – Farmington Hills. Health care professionals will be available for discussion, questions, blood pressure monitoring and more. The 30-60 minute walk begins at the Nature Center in Heritage Park and continues on a variety of trails throughout the park. Walks are open to everyone who wants to improve or maintain their health.

I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream: July 28, 12:30 p.m.

Head to the Costick Center Courtyard for a cool treat – enjoy a delicious ice cream float! Tickets available in Conway Hall. Cost is $2 by July 25, and $4 after.
