Hills nonprofit offers summer music program, concerts

Farmington Hills-based Chamber Music Society of Detroit will work for a fifth year on the AVANTI Summer MusicFest, a week-long workshop for teenage music students conceived by Musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Held July 25-30, the workshop culminates in two concerts featuring some of southeast Michigan’s finest young musicians performing alongside Detroit Symphony Orchestra members who have been serving as the students’ faculty mentors during the workshop: the July 29, 7:30 p.m., Festival Concert at Kirk in the Hills, 1340 W Long Lake Rd., Bloomfield Hills, and the Finale Concert, held at 1:30 p.m., July 30, at Orchestra Hall, 3711 Woodward Avenue, Detroit. The Finale Concert will be preceded by a silent auction at 12:30 p.m., which helps raise money to support the workshop.

Tickets may be purchased by phone at 734-756-9499 or at avantisummermusicfest.org.

The AVANTI Summer MusicFest is still accepting applications from musicians ages 13-18 for the 2016 workshop; the viola, clarinet, flute and trumpet sections have been filled, but applicants for all other instruments are still being accepted. Those interested in applying may do so at avantisummermusicfest.org. For more information, call 734-756-9499.
