Farmington Public Schools (FPS) elementary and secondary students will have different start times when they head back to school in the fall.
Officials announced this week that all elementary schools, with the exception of Highmeadow Common Campus, will start at 8:30 a.m., with students released at 3:47 p.m. All middle schools and traditional high schools will start at 7:45 a.m.; middle schools will end at 2:30 p.m. and high schools will end at 2:40 p.m. Farmington Central High School students will begin their day at 8 a.m. and end at 2:45 p.m.
Officials said the move comes as a result of feedback from parents and staff members. School and Community Relations Director Diane Bauman said standardizing elementary start times, which have varied across the board, was an issue at every staff meeting where the issue was discussed.
The district will continue to offer shuttles for students who attend different FPS schools during the day. The move isn’t expected to cause problems with regular transportation, Bauman said.
