Founders Festival calls for vendors, volunteers

There’s room for more vendors, crafters, parade entries, and volunteers at the 2016 Greater Farmington Founders Festival, held July 14-17 in downtown Farmington and Shiawassee Park.

During a June 7 volunteer pep rally, Greater Farmington Area Chamber Director Dan Irvin shared information about activities, including the return of Kids’ Day, hosted by the Farmington Family YMCA, hot air balloon and monster truck rides in Shiawassee Park, and an increased number of activities for kids and teens. This year, there will be only one beer tent, located on the south side of the Downtown Farmington Center parking lot. The Walter E. Sundquist Farmington Pavilion and Riley Park will host the Meijer Kids Zone and kids/teens entertainment stage.

Grand River will close for Saturday’s parade, which starts at 10 a.m. This year’s Grand Marshal is Mark Ziegler, owner of Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home and longtime community volunteer. Irvin said the Harrison High School Football Boosters will host a pancake breakfast in the beer tent on Sunday morning; no beer will be served during that event, he added.
