Farmington Y gets $3K for summer literacy program

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation last week awarded Farmington Family YMCA in Farmington Hills a $3,000 grant to support Youth Summer Literacy.

This local award is among more than $7.1 million in grants to more than 900 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 43 states that Dollar General stores serve.

“The Farmington Family YMCA is grateful for the continued support of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation,” said Farmington Y’s Youth Development Director Abigail Sacco. “Together, with the support of the foundation, we will be able to give our youth the literacy skills that they need at an early age in order for them to reach their full potential later on in life.”

The YMCA provides opportunities for children to gain confidence as they recognize the Y as a place where they belong and can feel comfortable exploring new interests and passions. The nonprofit provides programs that focus on literacy and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), building key skills needed for future leaders of tomorrow.
