Despite rain, Art on the Grand draws big crowd

Despite intermittent downpours Sunday, organizers say last weekend’s Art on the Grand was an overall success for the artists, thanks to better than average crowds as the event opened Saturday morning.

Art on the Grand offers three awards: the Farmington Mayor’s Award went to David Lewis (Figures of Wood), the Farmington Hills Mayor’s award went to metal artist Kelly O’Neill, and ceramicist Doug Delind took home the “Best in Show” award.

City of Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Coordinator Rachel Timlin explains how the Best in Show award was determined:

The juried arts festival closed Grand River between Grove Street and Farmington Road over the weekend, as more than 100 artists set up booths along both sides of the street. The DIA and Farmington Community Library offered hands-on arts activities in a children’s art area that included face painting, food vendors, and more.
