Farmington area Memorial Day: What you should know

Don’t put out your trash

Today’s trash, recycling and yard waste pick-up will happen tomorrow, and the one-day delay continues through the week. Friday’s routes will be collected on Saturday.

Streets close at 9:45 a.m. for the Memorial Day parade

Grand River will be closed to traffic between Orchard Lake and Gill Roads, and Farmington Road will be closed from Freedom Road to Shiawassee. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Mooney Street and moves west to Oakland Street. A ceremony will be held in Memorial Park (Grand River and Oakland) following the parade. Learn more at


Government offices and libraries are closed

Farmington and Farmington Hills city halls, the 47th District Court, and post offices in downtown Farmington and 32455 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, will be closed Monday. You can still purchase postage, mail letters and packages by using the Automated Postal Centers at both post office locations. Both Farmington Community Library branches will reopen at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Memorial Day is one of 10 federal holidays during which Michigan law allows fireworks, including the day before and the day after the holiday.
