Relay for Life kicks off Saturday in Shiawassee Park

Relay for Life
Relay for Life volunteers “painted” downtown Farmington with purple ribbons last weekend.

More than two dozen teams of walkers will camp out in Shiawassee Park this weekend, raising funds for the American Cancer Society during Relay for Life.

The event begins with a 10 a.m. opening ceremony, and the public is welcome to stop by, cheer on their favorite teams, and participate in fundraisers being held on-site. A moving ceremony that features luminaria dedicated to cancer survivors and those who have passed will begin at around 9 p.m.

A closing ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday. According to the event website, more than $74,000 has already been raised. To learn more, visit relayforlife.org/farmingtonmi.
