The Detroit Audubon Society, working with the Swift Sanctuary at the historic Winery/Powerhouse building in Farmington, will host “Swift Night Out” May 21, an opportunity to watch as many as 50,000 Chimney Swifts swirl around and funnel into the building’s iconic smokestack.
The location may be the largest roosting point in North America for the tiny birds, which may be mistaken for bats. Detroit Audubon provided support last year for a live video cam that broadcasts from inside the chimney. Read more: Swift cam operational in Farmington sanctuary.
Swift Night Out begins at 7:30 p.m. and continues until just after sunset, at 31505 Grand River. To RSVP, write to DAProgramCoordinator@DetroitAudubon.org or visit eventbrite.com/e/swift-night-out-tickets-23244723594.
