Farmington School Board applications due May 31

Farmington Public Schools officials began accepting applications May 17 to fill the Board of Education seat that will open up on July 1.

School board president Howard Wallach announced May 3 that he will retire before his term ends in 2018. To comply with state law and board policies, the district plans to fill the open seat within 30 days. If the vacancy is not filled within 30 days after it occurs, the intermediate school board fills the vacancy by appointment.

Candidates will be interviewed during a public meeting, and the appointment requires a majority vote of the remaining school board members.

Completed applications should be scanned and sent to boardofed@farmington.k12.mi.us, by 4 p.m. on May 31. Interviews will be set once the details are finalized.

The newly-appointed trustee will be sworn in and begin service at the board’s July 19 meeting; the appointment runs through December 31, 2016. The full term, which expires December 31, 2018, will be filled during the regular school board election in November of 2016. The deadline to file for that election is July 26, 2016.
