A Farmington Hills foundation created to help young people participate in positive activities is offering life skills classes for kids ages 10-15.
Gifting Dreamers Foundation founder Tegest Kebede said studies have shown young people who participate in community programs experience significantly less criminal delinquency, and fewer problems with drinking and drugs.
“Gifting Dreamers Foundation was created as a solution for at-risk youth in metro Detroit because there are so many young people lost in our community, due to the lack of finances, limited opportunity within the community, and few positive experiences outside of their neighborhood,” she said.
The Foundation is offering three free programs:
- Young Lady Dreamers Life Skills class
- Young Men Dreamers Life Skills class
- Dreamers Financial Fitness for Youth class
The Young Lady Dreamers Classes begins on May 14, with Dr. Nicole Metcalfe from Physicians 4 Women as the guest speaker. The classes run every Saturday until July 9, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Little Big World, 10 Livernois Ave. in Ferndale (one block north of Eight Mile Road). The Young Men Dreamers Classes, held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., start on May 21, with Pastor Gavin Brown from Brightmoor Christian Church as the guest speaker, and run through July 16.
Gifting Dreamers also hopes to offer a mentoring camp for the Young Lady/Men Dreamers later this summer. For more information, visit giftingdreamers.com.
