Seven local teens, ranging in age from 13 to 16, have signed up to compete July 13 for the title of Miss Farmington 2016.
Contestants and their parents met Sunday at John Cowley & Sons restaurant in downtown Farmington, where previous title holders and organizers shared information about the pageant, which will be held at the Farmington Civic Theater with the theme, “One Night Only.” Emma Feeheley, Miss Farmington 2014, and last year’s winner, Sidney Schrand, both say participating in the local event reaped big benefits.
“What’s come out of it for me has nothing to do with the crown and awards I won,” Feeheley said. “I have a full-time job lined up, because of this program, the networking and the skills you learn.”
Schrand said the best part of holding the title has been meeting people and attending community events. “There were so many events I never knew about. This is such an awesome community.”
Her advice for this year’s contestants? “Be yourself, be original. That’s my favorite part about this program, is you can be yourself.”
