With a “heavy heart,” Farmington Public Schools Board of Education Trustee Howard Wallach has announced his retirement, effective June 30.

Wallach made a brief statement at the close of Tuesday’s board study session. He said he made announcement so that his colleagues will have the opportunity to take the necessary steps to fill his post, and will have more to say at his last meeting.

Appointed in March 2004, Wallach was first elected in June of that year, and then reelected twice. His current term expires in 2018. The former chair of the Anti-Defamation League’s Michigan Regional Board, he is a partner with Foley and Mansfield, P.L.L.P. He and his wife, Stacy, have been district residents for 20 years and have two adult daughters.

Clarification: The ending year of Wallach’s current term was added to the original version of this post.
