Two teams of Farmington Public Schools students will represent Michigan at the Destination Imagination (DI) Global Finals, held May 25-28 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and they need help to make the trip.
Through DI, students from kindergarten to university-level learn and experience creative and critical thinking skills, teamwork, and problem solving related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education. During the after-school activity, they work in teams to solve mind-bending challenges and present their solutions at tournaments.
These students will be among the more than 1,100 teams from 44 states, and more than 14 countries advancing to Global Finals:
- Where Are They? team, Longacre Elementary School: Fiona Boehm, Jacqueline Brown, Olivia Brown, Sajan, Srihari Hebbar, Sriraam Hebbar, Preeti Sonawane (Power Upper Elementary student)
- Forward to the Past team, Power Upper Elementary School: Alex Jiang, Jacob S (Warner Upper Elementary student), Suchit Thummalapally, Sohan Pinnamaraju, Jordan McCray, Nate Carpenter-Crawford, Ray Schilke
A GoFundMe page has been set up with funds directed to the fiscal sponsor, the Farmington/Farmington Hills Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, to support this project. The teams are also planning a local bowling fund raiser for early May.
