AccessPoint Human Resources CEO Greg Packer really wanted to move his 29-year-old company from Novi to downtown Detroit – but settled for Farmington Hills as a step in the right direction.
Packer, along with staff and local dignitaries, cut a ceremonial ribbon Friday to mark the official opening of AccessPoint’s new headquarters on Orchard Lake Road. The company provides a wide range of human-resource services to companies across all industries. Speakers at the event included U.S. Congressman David Trott, State Representatives Christine Greig and Klint Kesto, Oakland County Financial Services and Economic Development Supervisor Mary Langhauser, and Farmington Hills Economic Development Director Khalfani Stephens.
Greig, who is a member of the House Education and Talent and Workforce committees, said she is excited to have “such a quality company in Farmington Hills.”
“We know how important it is for great companies to attract and retain talent,” she said, noting AccessPoint has developed innovative programs for their clients and employees.
While Detroit, Packer’s hometown, was his first choice, he said the distance was too much for employees who live “well out from there.” The company selected Farmington Hills, he said, because there appears to be a resurgence going on in the area and for its more central location.
“It still allows us to make a difference in Detroit,” Packer said. “This gets us closer.”
